- Competition Class: 350-cc Modified Partially-Streamlined Chassis, Pushrod Blown Gas Engine (MPS-PBG)
- Starting Number: 81 (Group 3)
- Crew Chief: Vaz Frnzyan
Run Objective: Baseline
Since the first event of the season was for rookie runs and engine break-in, this was my first event going for real speed. The engine tune and supercharger boost were similar to Smitty’s record run of 123.310 MPH in July 2017, so the goal was to compare the overall performance given the rider change. Smitty is much more experienced with the acceleration phase, but I have a significant weight advantage!
Run Report
The run wasn’t perfect, but still reached a speed of 120.996 MPH – my personal fastest run ever!
I bobbled off the starting line a little, and didn’t quite regain my mental composure through the run. I ended up over-revving 5th gear for a few seconds before shifting into 6th, which limited my time in 6th to rev it out. I was still gaining speed when I crossed the finish line. More speed for next time!
Post-Race Notes
- Start with both feet on the ground to minimize any lean during take-off (which caused bobble off the line)
- Add shift indicator at 7,800 RPM
- Slower roll off of the throttle at the end of the run
Maintenance

- Drain & check oil, check & clean oil filter, and check magnetic pick-up
- Check valve clearances
- Check static compression
- Clean out gasoline residue from intake manifold
Before the next race: The engine cylinders will be measured and sealed to the crankcase before the next race, certifying the 350-cc engine displacement. This will make any future record certifications much easier because we won’t have to completely tear down the engine to measure it.
