Bonneville Day 6 “In line”

Peace sign from Smitty with Amy sitting in the Pathfinder at Bonneville

Rider Smitty and Crew Chief Amy, waiting in line at Bonneville

Because of salt conditions, every vehicle attempting a record was running on the same course: the 4.0-mile “long” course.

In previous years there were four separate courses (7-mile, 5-mile, 3-mile, and a rookie course) but a wet winter and continued mining operations made this year difficult. Check out Save the Salt to see the good ol’ days and the work being done to save this historic land.

Since we started with a rookie run the day before, the line was already LOOOOONG by the time we arrived on Wednesday morning. We were over 1/4-mile back in line…

You can see that conditions were far from perfect off the course. I am happy to report that I never got stuck driving through the slush!

Smitty and I passed the time walking through the line and relaxing in the air conditioning, munching on snacks, and listening to the space adventures of Skippy and Joe in the Expeditionary Force series. Big thanks to the Pathfinder!!!
